Sedulous – Mekanord Gearbox Repair
L&M Engineering performed a full removal and reinstall of the Sedulous’ gearbox.
Steps taken:
Removal and full factory re-con
Installation & alignment
Commissioning & sea trials
The Glenugie (now Sedulous) suffered a transmission failure of the vessel’s Mekanord 430HS gearbox. Due to long lead times on new equipment, the best option was to remove the gearbox and send it for full factory rebuild at Mekanord’s plant in Denmark. The vessel’s tail shaft was secured and she was towed to Malakoff Ltd’s slip in Scalloway where L&M proceeded to first remove the vessel’s shaft generator for access before the gearbox could be removed. Upon receipt of the re-manufactured gearbox, L&M carried out installation and alignment of the reinstated machinery before full commissioning and sea trials.
