Alison Kay – Main Engine Replacement
A catastrophic failure of the propulsion engine required an in-water replacement solution.
Steps taken:
Bulkhead removal
Mechanical works
Alignment of drivetrain
Reinstatement
When the Alison Kay suffered a failure of their CAT 3508 main propulsion engine, L&M were tasked with carrying out the removal, installation and alignment of the replacement engine. Access to the fish hold was opened up by removal of electrical services, pipework and pumps from the bulk head before removal of linings and insulation and cutting of the bulk head. The engine was removed through the access hatch and lifted out of the vessel then the replacement installed by the same process. A full alignment of the machinery was carried out.
